My Love Affair With Mr. English

The gift of a snowy day

I must admit, I was dreading the trip. What should be a six and a half hour road trip, can easily become an eight to nine hour nightmare. The journey is long, and more often then not, it involves a car full of  squabbles and several stops for bathrooms and gas that rarely coincide. We were heading “up north”, as we have referred to it for the past fifteen years. It is my parent’s home; in the middle of the farm fields, in the “thumb” of Michigan. It’s all about the stamp!

You would think that writing a post about Valentines Day would be easy; simply talk about love, and hugs and romance- except that isn’t me. To me it is a Hallmark holiday. Of course I give in to social pressure- I buy small gifts for the birds, and as for Koi Boy- well, we have been married  for over 25 years! Isn’t that “present” enough? What is wrong with “average”?

We constantly tell our kids to go out into this world and be extraordinary. We want them to know that if they set their minds to it- anything is possible. We want them to dream big and live big, and the truth is, when they are little and hang on our every word- they believe it. And so do we.
